The purpose of the course. This course analyses the basic components of information systems and examines how information technology affects the nature of business in general and accounting and finance in particular. In addition to analyzing technology-driven changes, the course examines the relationship and distinctions between accounting information systems and the total management information system environment. This course is an introduction to how accounting and financial activities are implemented and integrated in computer-based accounting information systems.
The course learning objectives are to provide students with an appreciation of the current issues in information technology together with a theoretical and practical understanding of the process of developing and implementing an information system to support the activities of accountants and financial managers. The course prepares students to be effective evaluators, developers, and users of accounting information systems.
